How To Backup WordPress Site

 

Hopefully you’ve read How to Find and Install Plugins to Suit Your Purpose first, so you’ll be somewhat comfortable with the plugin idea.

Nevertheless, here we go (without pics for the parts that duplicate the post above to move things along):

  1. Login to your WordPress site
  2. In the left hand menu, go to Plugins, Click Add New
  3. Search for UpdraftPlus Backup…
  4. Click Install Now
  5. If you see a popup asking if you are sure you want to install this plugin, Click Ok
  6. Click Activate Plugin
  7. Navigate to Settings – UpdraftPlus Backups

  8. I use Dropbox to store my backups and I use the following settings:
    • Click on the Settings tab

    • File backup intervals: Daily and retain this many backups: 3
    • Database backup intervals: Daily and retain this many backups: 3

    • Include in files backup:
      1. Plugins
      2. Themes
      3. Uploads
      4. Any other directories found inside wp-content
      5. *I don’t mess with the Exclude these settings*

    • Choose your remote storage: Dropbox

  9. Don’t forget to click Save Changes!

  10. When it takes you back to the Current Status tab, beside UpdraftPlus notice: click “Click here to authenticate…

  11. Sign in to your Dropbox account
  12. Don’t forget to save the settings again when you’re done!
